Biography

Miran Vaupotić was born in Zagreb, Croatia (1982). He studied at the Ino Mirkovich Music Academy under licence of Moscow State Conservatory P.I. Tchaikovsky in Lovran and Faculty of Arts in Pula, where he graduated from in 2005. Since 2004 he has been teaching at the Zlatko Baloković School of Music in Zagreb. Among his teachers have been Marjan Krajna, Volodimir Balyk and Denis Modrušan. Masterclasses given by Professor Alexander Sklyarov have also had an important role in Miran Vaupotić's artistic development over the years.

He is a two-time first prize winner of All-Croatian Competition, prize winner of 1999 Pula Accordion International Competition, the LAUREATE of the 2003 Confédération Mondiale de L'Accordéon - CMA - Trophée Mondial de l'Accordéon in Italy and the Grand Prize winner of Music GOLDEN TROPHY 2007 International Competition in New York, USA as well as 1st prize winner of the International Festival InterArtia 2008 Music Competitions in Volos, Greece and Special Schnittke Award winner of 2008 IBLA Grand Prize World Competition in Sicily, Italy. The International Art Society & Academy declared him Artist of the Year 2008.

Miran has an active musical career. He has performed with several important orchestras and ensembles including Zagreb Soloists, Rijeka Philharmonic Orchestra, Croatian Chamber Orchestra, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, Camerata Klaipeda, Kaliningrad Chamber Philharmonic, Pomorian Philharmonic Orchestra, Egyptian Philharmonic, Moscow State Symphony Orchestra under Pavel Kogan etc. His performances have been radio broadcast in Croatia, Portugal, France, Canada and Romania.

Vaupotić also recorded 2 CDs published by AULOS Recordings from Varaždin, Croatia and by CLASSIC CONCERT RECORDS from Salzburg, Austria.

Miran is actively collaborating with important American, Russian, French, Slovak, Italian and Croatian composers, whose works he has premiered including Adalbert Marković, Tomislav Uhlik, Dubravko Palanović, Davor Bobić, Eric Schwartz, John Alan Rose, Jean – Luise Petit, Yevgeni Derbenko etc. He performed the world premieres of pieces dedicated to him: Concerto for bandoneon and orchestra by Paolo Ugoletti, Double Bayan Concerto by Peter Machajdik and Double Concerto for bandoneon, guitar and strings by Roberto Di Marino.

The extensive repertoire of Miran Vaupotić includes modern pieces, transcriptions from various music periods, as well as symphonic, concert and chamber music.

After establishing his career as a soloist, Vaupotić took up the baton and began a second career as a conductor. In addition to instrumental studies, Miran has also studied conducting with Maestro Miroslav Homen, most prominent opera conductor in ex-Yugoslavia, as well as with Maestro Saša Britvić, known baroque music ensemble director and professor at Zagreb Music Academy.

Miran Vaupotić is a Principal Guest Conductor of Russian Symphony Orchestra Prokofiev in Moscow and Associate Conductor of Lugansk Philharmonic Orchestra in Lugansk.

Season 2009/2010 will mark his engagements with Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, I Solisti di Zagreb, Sinfonietta Zilina, Kaliningrad Philharmonic, Lugansk Symphony Orchestra, Zagreb Chamber Orchestra, Beijing International Chamber Orchestra etc.
